Automatically update salary history when new salary updated

Currently these two tabs are independent of each other, so whenever a new salary is entered, you have to remember to go into salary history and enter in here also. This means that sometimes updating the history is missed and it involves double handling of entering data. Is there a way of being able to link salary updates so that they push through and auto-populate the history at the same time?
