About user roles and permissions

It's possible to set up different permissions for Creation, Visibility, Updates and Collaboration on a Goal. This allows increased flexibility and collaboration across Teams and the Company.

There are 4 different Permissions you can grant to users in Goals, these are:

  • Author
  • Updater
  • Commenter
  • Reader

The permissions are detailed in the table:

Additionally, The Goal Owner is the person or team that the Goal relates to - this is set when you create the Goal.

Default Goal Permissions

Company Goals

The user who creates the Goal is set as the Author.

All Employees are set as Readers, and only have access to view the Goal once it has been approved.

Team Goals

The user who creates the Goal is set as the Author.

All Team Managers are set as Updaters of the Goal and have access to it as soon as it is created.

Team Members are set as Commenters of the Goal and only have access to view the Goal once it has been approved.

All other employees have no access*.

Personal Goals

The user who creates the Goal is set as the Author.

If the employee is creating their own Personal Goal, no other user will have access by default.

If the manager is creating a Personal Goal for an employee they manage, the employee will be set as a Commenter and only have access to view the Goal once it has been approved.

All other employees have no access*.

*Goal Managers have access to view and edit all Goals, regardless of the permissions settings.

Updating Goal Access

You can change employee access to Goals by clicking the Share button in the top right corner of the Goal page.

This will open the "Shared with" dialog, where you can update the access by role or employee.
